I take it the Mini is fan-less ???

I really doubt that it is fanless. The problem with a fanless design is that it hamstrings you when newer, faster *and hotter* processors come out - you can't use 'em, so the line stays stale. That's what happened with the Cube (in addition to it not being as popular as they had expected) and the slot load iMac and is why Apple dropped that design concept with the iMac G4. Moreover, Apple put noisy hard drives into those systems, presumably to get the cost down, and the net result was that while you heard no system fan noise, you instead heard an even more obnoxious noisy hard drive. The claims of "silence" for those systems as shipped were pretty much false. Mind you, I love my slot-load iMac DV 400 MHz G3, at least *after* I replaced the built-in drive with a very nearly silent Seagate Barracuda - once silenced, it makes a fantastic stereo component!

It's more likely that the Mac mini has a powerbook-like variable speed fan that adjusts as needed, so that most of the time it is very quiet, but when the processor needs extra cooling, more cooling is available. It may well be the case that the current models will run at low speed all the time and effectively be nearly silent - I don't know.

Oh, and I'm the one that said my dual-533 was "lowly", and indeed it is in comparison to even the lowest end current Mac model (either the low-end iBook or the low-end Mac mini or eMac). It moves at a nice clip anyway - being lowly here is relative, and thus why I put "lowly" in quotes!
