Re: Stupid question

1st of all apologies if this message has already gone through - had to 
resend as the g-list rejected it the first time saying it was composed 
in the windows-1252 character set.... seems to be to do with the 
currency symbols I tried to use..

I suspect that on US keyboards shift 3 is the # (referred to as pound 
in the US?) symbol  whilst on UK keyboards shift 3 gives the � - UK 
pound sterling symbol, which is why Apple have alt 3 as # on UK 
keyboards (but don't put any marking's on the keyboard...) which is 
confusing because the  Euro symbol which is alt 2 is marked on the 
keyboard...

I think it is... If I press SHIFT-3 I get a "#"
If I press ALT-3 I get nothing and if I give my keyboard a Vulcan mind 
grip
SHIFT-ALT-3 I get nothing but a cramp in my hand... Is it possible 
that some
keyboards don't have a SHIFT-3 as a HASH? - thank goodness I don't 
program
on my Mac...
