This may not be a joke for those of you who use tape backup systems. Many of
them use 8mm cassettes like the Hi8 tape I'm concerned with.
This is why a good backup system should involve a certain level of media refresh all the time. Data from the oldest tapes are copied to newer ones. Tapes are expensive, but data is irreplaceable.
