For a GUI alternative have a look at WhatSize 10.2.5

http://www.versiontracker.com/php/search.php? mode=basic&action=search&str=whatsize&plt%5B%5D=macosx&x=15&y=8

Shows you both visible or invisible folders and let's you search Volumes or specific files and folders. Run as root let's you manage invisible files from within the GUI.
Duplicate the app and run separate searches or compare cloned Volumes.

Well, data creep happens. :)

Sure - happens to me to. But why is your 20GB OS partition being used - why not use the data partition?

I have some thing set to use the desktop or folders in the desktop as their default store.

First of all, I can't believe I misspelled "too," but anyway... Is your /Users folder still on the smaller OS partition? If so, you might want to consider moving /Users to the other partition.

If you like, post the results of both commands, or email them to me, and I can help you determine what is happening... if it's not totally obvious.

I'll take a look tonight and let you know! Thanks again;

No problem. Longtime Unix & NeXT user here... short-time Mac user.
