Just be aware that this is likely to be the analog part of the PAV board that is starting to go. I have seen a number of DV iMacs do the same thing in the workshop (as well as the old tray loads). One of the joys in owning a CRT :-) It will go in and out for ages though, and as you said, you can always plug another monitor in and avoid the colour changes.>>>
That's what I was thinking, but I wanted someone else to confirm my suspicion. I've seen the old slap-upside-the case work with computer CRTs and TVs with the cold solder joint disease. And I've seen plenty of purple-tint 5xx and 52xx all-in-ones where a new analog board cured things. But my experience with iMacs is limited, and I was puzzled that the mirrored monitor would show no symptoms. Upon reflection, apparently that means the video chips on the logic board are OK since they and the VGA port are on that board, and points to the analog part of the PAV board(s) as the culprit. But I was totally nonplussed by the sudden disappearance of the yellow tint, especially after a half-dozen cycles of yellow tint/normal. The machine has been on all day, and color is still normal, by the way. Is it possible there was something in the former owner's computer desk area that was causing the tint, such as an electric motor or something?
