They ALL have VGA connectors. The main name manufacturers are getting out of the CRT business, margins are so small, particularly on the 17" and 19" range. It'll be made by some low-end manufacturer like Goldstar or lesser known Koreann or Chinese manufacturers, and it'll probably work just fine.
It's a new, larger monitor, it's going to make his old one look like cr*p.
