Hello boys and girls, I own a franken-g3 beige, well that's how I like to call it. She has been... well compared to the other macs I had in the past...how do I put this... its was a pain, well I mean, its been really useful, its the Mac I have used the longest (2 years now), since I always seem to always buy Macs that are old to begin with, but I managed to keep it for 2 years without needing to upgrade anything (other than common HD and CD burner upgrade)... what I meant to say is that, when it came, it was a pain, had to upgrade firmware for the PCI SCSI card to install OSX (after I tried a million things before I found out the hard way!) I found out the OSX partition has to be 8GB, blah blah, it wasnt easy to get used to her in the beginning with those limitations.
Anyway, I want to keep this lovely G3 beige, as hard as it was to configure it to suit my taste (9GB HD and 42GB HD sitting on the SCSI-2 68pin) to which the 42 GB drive is FULL HIGH, and I eliminated floppy cause I never use it at all to accomodate the drive (I would have been equally happy with an iMac if it wasn't because they still are selling for a chunk of money compared to other G3s), however now I needed a little speed boost and can't afford much at all, so I managed to find a 400Mhz G3 in eBay for $150 that looks pretty good. Its a blue model. I always wanted to have one of those blue G3s. Well lets face it, the cheapest G4 in eBay is selling for at least $200 unless its a crummy setup or a "for parts or for fixing" cracker jack box Ok this is the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5749799061 Used buy it now cause I hate to wait and also, no matter what, auctions seem to always go up in the price range the seller placed for BIN in the first place. :\ I want to see if I can switch the components with the G3 beige. I want to keep the G3 beige with the 9GB HD and put the 42 GB full high in the blue one. Can it be done with some modification like I did with the Beige? (by removing the floppy) I don't mind having the case off, my G3s bones are showing (I can close it if I want to, I was just used to taking the cover off so many times I decided not to put it back anymore). Ok, also how can I upgrade the CD on the blue one? I want to put my Beige's IDE burner in there. Sorry if I sound extemely naive, but as I look into the front of the machine's picture, it looks flat and it seems it wont accept anything, it looks like something made for looks, I want to look deeper into it and see how far I can take it, like my Beige. Also can it use my standard mouse & keyboard? Or do I need USB? Also what kind of display can I use on it? thanks! Thanks -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
