Thanks Clark. That puts my mind at ease, somewhat. Still don't know why
this ADC box died twice--I guess I'll have to look for some other
explanation. But with its innards replaced by the factory maybe the
trouble is past anyway.

The long FW cable shouldn't adversely affect the Video ADC. From what
I know of FW the supply voltage is not fixed. This means the
peripherals are likely using a switching regulator to provide 3.3, 5,
12 or other voltages. Any voltage drop in the line would be
compensated for by the regulator.
The switching power supply in the computer is overload protected so if
that was a problem you'd know it because the whole computer would shut
down.
