I was just wondering how much cash you are putting into this and whether it
might be more economical to get a higher level system or look at the mac

I know my beige experience was to create a computer that would match the
capabilities of my clamshell blueberry ibook.
I spent in total about $110 dollars and I ended up with 2 working beiges.
One system in perfect and the other has a flakey video card which is fine as
long as it is not moved. So I felt my money was well spent but as soon as I
looked at processor upgrade cards or video cards, everything was out of my
price range.

Okay, I have the motherboard, wings card and firewire/usb card mounted
in the new case. I have the new SCA SCSI drive and adapter ordered
from Surplus Computers, plus 3-256 Mb sticks of PC100 RAM coming from
OWC. I just purchased an ATI Radeon 7000 PCI card for my B&W which
means I will have the 128 Rage Pro to install once it arrives. The
DVD-Rom drive which came with my B&W will also be installed, along with
a CD burner. I am still thinking about a processor upgrade as well,
but nothing too expensive. Will one from a B&W work and if it will, is
it just a matter of inserting into the zif and resetting the jumpers?
I appreciate your concern, but the truth of the matter is this is just something to do, a project to keep me from getting into serious trouble 8^) I didn't like my first PC case conversion and wanted something that looked more professional. Just decided to make it into a useful computer along the way. I may even play around some with recording video from a VCR via the wings A/V card. At some point in the future I will get a DVD burner and then I want to convert all of my old VHS movies to DVD format. Is the wings card any good for recording video from a VCR?
Just a message from Doug...
