The 3Ware unit is a hardware raid controller, including local cache ram (2 
or 6mb in this case I believe) and a hardware XOR engine.  Most cheaper RAID 
controllers rely on the host cpu to either perform XOR operations, or all 
the work, the card just provides the ports.  That said, New 7006-2's can be 
had for $110, this auction is is priced to try and bag a clueless newbie. 
Infact, I'm tempted to report it as a scam...

Seems more than a little pricey to me.  RAID controllers cost more, but 
that seems like overkill.
