Because the people on the G-list are such an inventive lot (are you listening Larry?), I've decided to seek advice on my latest project. What I did was to buy an old Magnavox console stereo on Ebay tonight with the intention of converting it to an MP3 jukebox for my game room. What I need are ideas on how best to accomplish this goal. I would like to be able to either select songs for playback from either a screen or list by perhaps a keyboard combo (similar to the old style jukeboxes), such as B-17, etc. Also I would like to be able to play random songs according to genre or date. I thought about using an iPod, but I really would rather have a larger screen to view. At this point it's not much more than a pipe dream, but I'm sure someone will come up with a suggestion that will set the gears in motion! Please respond off-list, thanks for listening.
Just a message from Doug...
I'm picturing an iTunes-capable Mac CPU stuffed inside the the unit with the audio out fed to the stereo-hifi's amp. The Mac has a cleverly mounted touch screen display running some amazingly simple software that allows you to set up a kiosk interface. Press a "button" on the screen and the desired song just plays because the software told iTunes to play it (Applescripted?). Other buttons could take you to more on-screen pages with more songs to choose from. "Random" button tells iTunes (based on genre selected from a menu) to randomly play songs from playlists that are set up by song genre. How about a Beige G3 desktop inside the belly of the beast (or underneath it)?
How am I doing so far???
