Greetings all,
I'm looking at an iMac (Ruby, I believe, slot-loading model, 400mhz
w/Firewire, 1999) for a friend of mine who had difficulty with power on.
I've reset the logic board, replaced the PRAM battery w/ a new one; what I
get when pressing the Power-on button (on the Mac w/ no keyboard, but same
results with keyboard) is: green light on button, indicator LEDs on logic
board flash, and speakers attempt to sound out the start-up chime, but don't
make it, then all goes dead. What's next? Fuse? Power/Analog/Video board?
I've verified that the logic board is getting trickle-down power as the
service-source manual indicates.

Any help from iMac know-ers would be most helpful.
Thank you,
Dana

Have you tried connecting it to an external monitor? If it will run that way, you likely have a bad video board. Usually it is the flyback transformer. I had this problem on my tangerine iMac, but was able to fix it with a new FBT. The FBT feeds high voltage to the CRT, so if you choose to fix it yourself, be careful as there can be the potential for a very nasty shock.
