Deb's getting excited about upgrade possibilities....
Wow! I knew you G3 Geniuses would help, but this is GREAT! Now you have me
convinced that a G4 PCI is the way to go, and it will take my 800 Mhz
upgrade card AND the RAM AND the drives!
<snip>
I'm confused: what is the G4 PCI, is that Sawtooth or Yikes? It seems it is
Yikes. Sawtooth is the AGP version, correct? Need the G4 that will take my
Sonnet upgrade card, and that is the G4 PCI.
----------
The G4 PCI "Yikes" is merely a glorified B&W in a newer grey case. The only siginificant difference between the two is the Yikes *doesn't* have ADB. Actually, there's another difference: the probable cost. You'll probably pay a bit more to get that nice case with "G4" on the side panels. There's no difference performance-wise between B&W and Yikes using the same processor.
And I urge you again to reconsider using the Sonnet G4 - swap for something that fully utilizes the B&W/Yikes 100 MHz bus speed.
Sawtooth and later G4's are AGP units that use entirely different types of processor daughtercards.
----------
Only problem is I got the MiniTower for FREE and want the same deal for the
G4, am dreaming aren't I? Sigggghhhhhhh
<snip>
Anyway you all are just great and there just is not enough time in the day
to chew on all the information you so happily share!
----------
If you're like some of us more obsessive types on the lists, you can make up for that shortfall during dreamtime. 8^P
And lastly, Eric, you have the machine I was thinking of, the B&W Rev 1 and
sounds like you're pretty happy with that. Lots to think about for sure!
----------
Especially if you're considering using a PCI drive controller card to enhance your hard drives' performance. Then it doesn't matter which B&W you get.
Peace, Gene
