Got a puzzle for you network-savvy fellow geeks out there.

I acquired a used Hp ColorLaserjet 4550 with JetDirect 600n on eBay. It functions within expected parameters with one hitch: it won't link up with my Mac QuickSilver (2001) Dual 1.27 GHz through the ethernet LAN in my house. It and my cable modem - through which this is being sent - both work quite well if hooked directly to the onboard 10/100/1000 ethertalk port. The cable modem works just fine if hooked to the 10baseT side of my Farallon Starlet 10/100 hub (not the 100 side), but the hub then has to be in the Mac's port, so the printer is left out. The printer isn't seen when plugged into either the 10 side or the 100 side, even though it's capable of 10/100TX.

When setting up the printer, I studied up on use of the front control panel, so I have already accessed the controls concerning ethernet, but it didn't help. The modem needs no adjustment when switching locations in the network, but the printer works only when hard-wired.

Any ideas ?
