Maybe the Panther version of Preview is greatly improved over Jaguar's?
Bruce says:
As are many, MANY things.
You mentioned yesterday or the day before (I'm pretty sure it was you) you didn't see any great differences between Jag and Panther
No, but I said (or meant) that I never felt forced to go out and buy Panther due to any actual technological need. That followed me previously stating the opinion that OS 9 users ARE in a position where they are in need of upgrading in order to be able to meet changing internet and other computing standards.
I haven't used Panther to have any firsthand knowledge of how it is improved over Jag although my Panther using peers have raved about it. I would love to have upgraded and have been tempted, but at this point I figure I'll just wait for Tiger. Or maybe find a steal of a deal on Panther and then not upgrade to Tiger until IT has been out for two years :-)
And then Bruce explains the differences:
, and at first blush there aren't, but after using Panther for a while you learn that there was a bucketload of new and enhanced features, all little things like this.
I have Panther at work and Jag at home, and it's quite frustrating sometimes.
In many ways they're like 8.1 and 8.6.
On the surface, they're a lot alike, and, like the differences between 7.6 and 8.1, the differences between 10.1 and 10.2 were so enormous and stark that they really overshadowed the many subtle changes between 10.2 and 10.3.
For example: in Mail in 10.3 I can right click on an address in a message and add it to my address book, copy the address, reply just to the sender, or send that person a new message.
You can't do that in Jag.
