Subject: bringing VHS into Macs

Is it possible to use the Zio Cameramate hardware on a Mac?
Any user comments on the ADS USB Instant DVD for Mac?

I haven't used any of the various USB analog-to-digital converters myself, but what I've read suggests that USB is too slow to get decent transfers at full res (i.e., dropped frames, I guess). Firewire would appear to be your best bet, but it's pricier.

What are others using to bring VHS into Macs and convert to digital for
DVD archiving?

I've transferred some old VHS stuff to DVD using a DV camcorder. Plug in the VCR to the camera, record onto DV, and then import it into iMovie for later exporting into iDVD. Not as elegant as some hardware solutions, I suppose, but it gets the job done.
