Hi listers --

I'm still trying to get my "new" B&W G3 (eBay, $94 *including* shipping --
since we were comparing bargains a while back) up and running. The trouble
is that it takes a standard VGA monitor (at least that's the plug, and
that's what Apple's owner's manual specifies), so the Apple monitor that's
been plugging along with my 7600 can't be used. Probably there's an adapter
available, but it probably would cost more than a VGA monitor, which seem to
be everywhere. Anyway I traded for one, which looks OK and was said to work
perfectly in a PC and claims to be an Avitron "multiscan color monitor,
April 1999) -- but nothing appears on the screen except a bright horizontal
line across the center. What's the trouble? Should I give up on this
monitor, or am I just doing something wrong (and fixable)?

Sounds like a bad monitor or cable to me, or possibly a bad video card. A monitor made in 1999 should certainly support the 75Hz default refresh rate of Apple video signals. I'd test the monitor on another system, if it works it's your video card, if not, it's the monitor.
