Jim,

That sounds reasonable, that somehow all the text went white and therefore became invisible. But in this case, TextEdit won't even open the doc so that I can try it, and the other apps that seem to open it (TextWrangler etc.) show only a blank page, and Select All selects nothing, apparently. After Select All in TextWrangler I made sure the text color was black, but still nothing showed up. Phooey.

But that's another good tip to file away for when that actually happens, though. I'll remember it. Thanks!

Tom

Edie,

Thanks for the tips. I downloaded both those apps,
and they're pretty neat, especially Text Wrangler.

But when they open those broken TextEdit docs they
just show a blank
page. So I guess the info is gone. I can't figure out
how it happened,
but I'm not going to trust TextEdit with important
data anymore.

Anyway, I'll get some use out of these neat text
programs you pointed
me to. So some good came of this, thanks to you and
the others trying
to help. I appreciate it.

Thanks again,

Tom

Tom, I've had a problem before with some "blank" RTF files and here's what worked for me: Open the file in TextEdit or other RTF-capable program <command> A (to grab All) Change the color to black or a dark one That was it. Somehow the color had gotten changed to white, I don't know how. A bug maybe? Jim
