I am doing a clean install of Tiger on an iMac DV+ 450
MHz. I selected Extended Journaled as the format but am
pondering what negative effects turning journaling on would
have on performance. I also wonder over time if drive space
may be a factor with continued journal logging as this Mac
only has a 20 GB drive. It's my understanding that once
journaling is enabled you can not disable it without a
reformat.

I gotta wonder how necessary the crash protection of
journaling is as I have never had issues with the very few
crashes (more likely kernel panics) I have had on this and
other machines running Jag/Panther OS X versions w/o
journaling.

To enable or not to enable journaling, that is the
question.
