There was a thread on this a few days ago. Visit this Macintouch site for more on the problem: <http://www.macintouch.com/ imacg5part10.html#jun02>. When was yours made?

We got in December 2004, which is about the same time as a lot of the others on Macintouch. Wonder if we're dealing with something that needs a recall or a class action suit?

Thanks for pointing that site out to me.

Since every iMac G5 sold since August 2004 is still under the 1-year factory warranty, and since units with defective hardware are being fixed under warranty, and since the iMac G5 20" I bought at the end of May has critical parts that were redesigned to remedy the problems revision 1 owners have experienced, the answer to your question is no. If Apple refused to fix defective units while under warranty, or after warranty expiration, of if Apple continued to produce units with defective or failure-prone parts, then legal remedies might be indicated.

On the other hand, I purchased the 3-year AppleCare extended warranty on my iMac G5 as a prudent hedge against a post-1-year warranty expiration failure. I also waited until revision 2 before purchasing. I did this simply because of my past experiences and my concerns over the still-unknown problems to be found in a new design as it ages. I was unaware of the Macintouch reports when I bought my iMac G5, but my experience with any first-generation manufactured product is that problems will occur in the wild over time that didn't happen in the lab or during testing trials, no matter how exhaustive or intensive.
