An Intel processor (Proc as UNIX-heads refer to them) will blab a lot

Let me see if I have this right: level 2 means the CPU serial number is
disabled, while level 3 means it is _en_abled, yes?
IIRC, Intel originally intended to ship these with the CPU serial
number
enabled, until there was a hue and cry about them doing so.
Apparently PowerPC chips don't report as much information about
themselves
when queried.
Thankfully, no, they don't. Although I uneasily recall something
about a
CPU serial number scheme to do with the imac. I don't know if it was
ever
implemented, or if it was just something that was talked about.
Anyone?

Under "About This Mac > More Info > System Profile appears:
Customer serial number XBxxxxYM-MMA-ff11 (Power Mac) and:
Sales order number MxxxxLL/A
Isn't this sort of a CPU identifier? I'm sure Apple can access this?
So for instance, if I were running a pirated copy of say Garage Band,
couldn't Apple tie it to me?
Or does Apple just let me believe this to keep me straight? 8^D
