Hi listers -- here's the idiot question of the week, but it's been
bugging me not to know: what does "OEM" stand for? I dimly
understand what it *means* but have no inkling what the letters
refer to.
"Original Equipment Manufacturer"
Most computer companies simply put their name on things made by a
number of other companies, even Apple. Apple's Superdrives are OEM'ed
by Pioneer, Sony is/was the OEM of a number of companies CRT monitors.
Western Digital, Seagate, Fujitsu, Samsung and Hitachi are the OEM's
of most hard drives found in most computers.
(any monitor that had 'itron' in the model name somewhere was likely
a Sony Trinitron that had been rebadged)
