It' is indeed a desktop case unit. Both the CD-ROM and Zip drives are

The main HD, however, I have no idea about (though I can't fathom how
it might've come set as a slave drive from the factory). How do I go
about accessing it, since it seems to be under the main cluster of
drives?

Okay, you must have the top cover off to be looking at the drives, so
there is a plastic cover over the slots where the cards plug in that
just pulls up and it's hinged. At the front and back of the larger
section which contains the drives, there are two slide plastic catches
which hold that section down. Once they have been slid back to unlock
that side of the case, the entire section just lifts up and is also
hinged. There is even a plastic leg which will fold out to support the
drive section. There is a HD sled under that section which screws
directly to the bottom of the case. Not sure if that is where you are
talking about or not, but the only other place it would be located is
exposed on top, so I assume yours is under that section if you cannot
see it. Be careful when pulling up that section as the cables feed
down to the motherboard through a hole in that section back near the
PSU. It may require you to undo the cables from the floppy, CD-ROM and
zip drives in order to get that section up far enough to reveal the
lower drive sled. HTH
