Greetings all,
I have come across a piece of iMac hardware that I cannot identify (and the
service source manuals make no mention of it!).

Perhaps one of you with more iMac experience can help.

My future son-in-law got himself a Blueberry iMac (slot-loading, Rev. "E"?)
350mhz. It came with a spare motherboard/converter board. Both boards are
identical 350mhz boards with modems attached on the underside.
One board is Apple-part-numbered 820-1051A and the other 820-1096A (I
suspect these are lot nos.), both made in ©1999 in Malaysia and identified
as 350mhz-64Mg (RAM, I presume the OEM installed amount).

Again, both are identical, except for one element. On the 820-1051 board,
there is an extra 120-pin socket (white - looks similar to the FireWire
module socket on a B+W G3 motherboard) - (I can see pre-drilled holes in the
same location of the 1096A board, anticipating such a socket to be soldered
on, but it was not), So, the 1051 board has this extra socket, located upper
right of the CPU and below/perpendicular to the Airport card port. In this
port is an installed daughter card of sorts, about the same size as the
modem but shaped with a "panhandle", Apple part no. 820-1071A, and underside
has an Intel chip with the no. DC1096B on it.

Anybody know what this card is? I am very curious about it, since, as
mentioned above, the service source manual makes no mention of its
existence.

Thank you for reading, and for any investigative assistance.
Best regards,
Dana
