Sounds like a plan. USB is USB Since it derives it's
power from an outside source(the little 4 wire power
cord), there shouldn't be a conflict. Hey while we're
on the subject.....
I bought an enclosure on ebay that has a built in
fan that you can plug in an ATA drive or even a DVD
player and the whole thing connects to my B&W thru
USB. Anybody ever use one?

That's a very good deal on such a gadget. I've seen a fiewire version of that
kind of thing for $100. But I wonder what implemtentation of ide the converter
is. Would you get full speed out of a 7200 rpm drive or a fast DVD writer? It
doesn't say on the page.

I have a firewire/usb box with a 7200 rpm drive and also a few 7200 rpm drives
on an ata 133 card (on a 133 mhz bus in a G4 Digital Audio). Benchmarking the
drives, the firewire drive comes in as fastest by maybe 10%! But I'm not sure
about the usb 2 in the same box which I haven't benchmarked on the same drive.

Be interested in results if anyone has them.
