I'm going to take your advice and do that. Does OS10 require any system plugs to run Linux freeware such as GIMP?

You'll need to install X-Windows, this is on the installer Discs for 10.3 and 10.4.

Also, is there an open source equivelant to BBEdit?

Well, it's not open source, but the free-as-in-beer TextWrangler, from Bare Bones software, does me just fine as a programming editor. It's now a replacement for the good ol' BBEdit Lite. It doesn't have all the bells&whistles that BBEdit does, but then, neither do most OSS editors unless you're a lisp hacker with emacs.

One of my most used programs, I've got three or four files open in it right now...I was even one of the sucker^H^H^H^Hloyal customers who bought it when it was a paid product.

As for OSS text editors, there are a bunch. I'd check Version Tracker.
