Just as a quick update regarding my little project to (cheaply) upgrade
an old G3 Beige DT unit ("Gossamer") I inherited, using just "stuff
around
the house" that I had already, so it could run some flavor of OS X...
I've only upgraded the memory so far, but I have since then successfully
been able to load and run Jaguar on it. I think that's good enough, and
don't want to bother with anything like XPostFacto and later OSX
releases.
I may toss in an additional IDE disk for more space, since I have that
lying around too, but for now, this machine, albeit a tad bit slot, is
really quite useable as an OSX system for simple tasks (which was my
initial goal for this project).
Many thanks to so many who responded, including: Randy Hare, J.J.
McVeigh,
Roger Moffat, JJ Tiger, Ken G. Brown, John Kessler, Jack Countryman, and
to anyone else I might have missed here (my apologies).
