Depending on what type of Mac you have, you may well be able to implant
the disk in the mac directly. Almost all recent Macs use IDE channels
and ATA/IDE disks, which is the same as what PCs use (mostly).

Just remember that if you put this disk on the same channel as the
boot disk, set the "master/slave" jumper to "slave". Mac OS X should
be able to figure out the file system and mount it for you.

I have not been able to get pc drives to show up on my beige G3 (Rev 2 or 3 rom, I forget which, supporting slave drives) when I hook them up to one of the ide channels. Running 10.2. Any hints?

Hopefully, this is only semi off topic and allowed here. A friend has a pc (dell running xp home) that has become absolutely unusable due to the usual stuff (spyware, adware, virii, etc.). Of Course, she does not have a backup of the irreplaceable files on it, mostly jpegs. I am wondering if there is a way to physically connect the drive to one of my Macs to get the files off of it?

I would prefer for the solution to be free, but if the only easy way is using a external FW/USB case, let me know. And if anyone has experience with putting a pc drive into an external case to access it on a Mac, I would appreciate any warnings or preferably a slap upside the head with the proverbial "Just do it, it is a Mac, it will just work".
