Yeah, I did the permissions repair and disk repair from the install disk - though I did it on the B&W, as it's 10.3 and I didn't feel like pfutzing with Xpostfacto on the beige.

But when I swapped the drive back it still did the same.

I'm currently running with the drives swapped - which is OK for the short term, as neither machine is a production server (yet). But eventually I'd like to get this straightened out due to the speed differences between the machines. (and no, I don't want to just swap the processors - I had trouble getting the 1ghz to run at a decent speed on the beige).

I believe I fixed this by booting with my OSX install CD and using disk
utilities to fix permissions.

But I've never pulled the hd and put it in another computer.

You may want to give it a try anyway.

Good luck.

 Hi all

 I have a beige with a 400mhz G3 which has been running 10.3.9 fine
 until today when I rebooted.

Now I'm getting a grey screen with:

 FAULT CATCH!, code=FFF00700 at %SRR0: 05609710 %SRR2: 00023070

 n Firmware, 2.0f1
 continue booting the MacOS type:
 <return>
continue booting from teh default boot device type:
 T<return>
   Open Firmware serial I/O type:
 A IO<return>

This all comes up so fast I don't have a chance to hit return until this
 point.

 I hit return and got:

 ok
 -

and waited.... Nothing else happened for over 15 min.

I put the same HD in a B&W and it booted fine. I ran permissions
repair and HD repair just to be sure.

When I booted off a different startup disk I found that the OS9
folder on that disk had become un-blessed. Fixing that allows me to
reboot in 9, but I still can't get into X
