There's your answer right there: you need DVD-R or DVD-RW disks.

If it didn't like the CDRW, the CDRW disk was bad, the disk had a failed write on it (you may be able to recover using the Disk Utility Erase CDRW function), it just didn't like that brand of disks, or the drive is bad.
