Hm... We have a non-Apple USB keyboard with a power key connected to a
G4 AGP. It turns the machine on, so there must be some standby power.
Or maybe you meant much newer Macs?
The only theory I can think of is that when the newer Macs are
turned off there is no standby power on the USB port to keep the
keyboard powered.
Adding onboard battery and circuitry would add to the cost.
