I just bought an external FireWire drive to be used (primarily) with my Blue & White G3. Since I use a switchbox to share a monitor between the G3 and my Windows box, the place where a monitor power cord can be plugged into the back of the G3 is not being used. Is there any reason I shouldn't plug the
external drive in there?

None I can think of. It certainly draws less current than a monitor, and this way it'll always start up with the computer.
