Interesting thread. I bought a G4 Digital Audio with intention to upgrade the
processor. I learned from this list (Len G) that Quicksilver processors can be
made to work in DAs, so I bought a dual 800 board. Works fine, except that the
L3 caches needs software to kick them in. This works in os 9 with one free
software, in Panther with another, but I can't get it to work in Tiger. I'm not
sure it is a major loss, but I haven't gone to
Tiger yet, partly for that reason.
I went dual to help Photoshop and Final Cut but it's really hard to say how much
it affects the speed of the work. I haven't had a big Final Cut project yet and
my previous experience wwiwth a major video job was on a 466 G4 in a Beige. So
the Digital Audio will be much faster for a variety of reasons, not just the
duals. I have to assume they will be an asset.
Meanwhile, I use Menu Meters, a wonderful freeware application that can put all
kinds of useful information in the menu bar. With dual processors, it displays
the % use of both processors, so you can get some sense of how the work is
shared in real time. Often there is a 10 to 20% difference, so there is some
intelligent life in there making choices, (I hope.)
Hope this helps.

Not going to Tiger is no big loss believe me. Stay at 10.3.9
