interests that are threatened by wide band telephones.

Some early users of VoIP in California found that when they dialed 911, they were connected with the nearest California Highway Patrol station. If you were having a heart attack, I think you'd find the minutes wasted transferring your call to the correct emergency service to be a big problem.
