I just finished putting two ATA hard drives and a SCSI CD burner in one.
Assuming that you only have the one hard drive (no SCSI card with attached drives) the procedure is: Pull the machine away from the wall so you can get at the power cord. Disconnect the power cord (and monitor power cord if attached). If you have enough room, lay the machine on the side with the power light (the side that has the "protrusion" with the power light). Press the blue-green button on the top to unlatch the door. Open the door a couple of inches and lift it off. The ata hard drive is mounted in a bracked against the top of the machine. Using a medium Phillips screwdrive, remove the two screws from the bracket. Pull the bracket with the hard drive towards you an inch or so and swing it out so you can access the ribbon and power cables. Unplug the power and ribbon cables and you can take the drive and bracket with you. If you want to remove the drive from the bracket, note the position of the drive in the bracket, and remove the 4 drive mount screws. Package the drive in anti-static wrap, handle carefully, and head across country! Ken -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
