Dear List: I have a 15-inch Powerbook G4 1.25GHz running the latest version of Tiger (10.4.2). I am looking at options for a Bluetooth headset. I found one option, a Plantronics M2500.
I tested this unit in store with one of the most current G5 iMacs. I paired this headset with this computer and it worked flawlessly. I also tried it on one of the current 15-inch Powerbooks and it too worked flawlessly. I took the headset home and tried setting it up with my Powerbook. The Powerbook saw the headset, but when I tried to continue with the setup process a message popped up. It stated the following: "Failed to set up the headset. Headsets are not supported on your Bluetooth hardware." I checked my Powerbook's Apple System Profiler and it shows that the software version of Bluetooth is 1.60f2 and the firmware version is 1.526. According to Apple's own information, this headset should work. The minimum requirements for supporting Bluetooth headset devices are: software version 1.5 or later and firmware version 1.02. I also tried setting up the M2500 headset with my old Power Mac G4 (which is running OS 10.4.2) which has been retrofitted with a D-Link Bluetooth USB adapter, DBT-120. The setup proceeded without a hitch. I was able to configure and use this headset with Skype. If I want to use this headset with my Powerbook, will I need to install a D-Link Bluetooth USB adapter to do it? Or is there a firmware upgrade which will make this unit work with my Powerbook?
