I used to use "Mac OS Purge" freeware utility frequently; it re-allocated contiguous RAM without booting up. Made for OS 8, it ran flawlessly (as in, never made the Mac crash!) in 9.2.2 as well. My 2ยข worth. Best regards, Dana
