what happens as far as stability and RAM slots functionality. BTW, is there a chip on the motherboard that controls this sort of thing? Early revision beige G3s had a chip on the motherboard that is rated at 83MHz, which is why it is almost certain that those can be run on an 83MHz bus. Later beiges had a 66MHz chip and are much harder to overclock the bus. But Im thinking that if there is a chip, I could put a heatsink on it and that would help at least stability. If I lose 2 RAM slots I dont think this would be worth it, unless I could fairly quickly switch back and forth.

It would appear there is a way that involves hardware.

From www.macaddict.com, subject of 'Son of Frankintosh!!'

A long story made short, I moved my Mystic ( Gigabit Ethernet or Sawtooth 2 ) G4's plastics onto and PSU and logic board into a B&W G3's steel inner-chasis, overclocked the logic board to 133mhz ( by removing resistors at positions R434 and R435 on the back of the board ), then installed an 867mhz G4 from a Quicksilver into the "new" machine, and added 12volts to the card ( required to make it work ), by splicing the yellow line on a CPU fan's extension. This gave me the advantage of also having a CPU fan to help cool the new CPU, while using the orginal heatsink which shipped with my Mystic.

So, it would appear that this site may have the info you are looking for.
