Shared Epson experiences.

I think I was using the 1.3dA print driver and EpsonScan 1.28a driver without
problems on 10.2.8 prior to installing Tiger and it's Epson printer package.
I'm sure the scan twain driver is still v.1.28a and only 6.1 MB. It's the scan
utility app that must be the pig. The scan utility 1.28a works in Tiger
although it's basic.

Just downloaded the v. 2.65a driver and scan utility no problem. Will try it
tomorrow.

Now my Epson experiences. I'd rate the web troubleshoot and FAQ help as poor.
Just not real helpful. Tech support on a new printer still within warranty is
fine. Otherwise it costs $9.00 for a live person even to ask a simple question.

My 5200 prints and scans great... but...
The "CX" all-in-one models and others have issues with print heads clogging. If
you use your printer regularly and replace empty ink cartridges almost
immediately, and leave the old one in place until the new one is put in there's
generally not a problem. It's very annoying though on the CX5200 that you can
not print at ALL if any one color or black cartridge is empty. If the yellow is
out, sorry, you can't print a page of black text. Keep those spares handy.

What's more, there's a crappy design flaw on the "CX" and some "C" models where
an ink purge tube becomes disconnected usually during an ink cartridge change
and prevents printing due to loss of vaccuum pressure in the ink line. New full
ink but blank pages come out. You go through the basic troubleshooting process,
multiple head cleanings which wastes ALL the inks (large amounts too) even if
just the black or one color is the problem. And the normal responses is to
suspect the new cartridge as "bad" and go buy another, break the seal and
install with the exact same results.
The printer must be dismantled in order to get to this tube to reconnect. That
means shipping for service although Epson will send a quick (used) replacement
if you are under warranty.

14 months old and mine just happened this week as I was trying to print
invoices to mail before running to the airport. I just took it apart and fixed
it myself today. Time consuming and messy but otherwise "free." Anyone in need
can go here for help:

It's much easier on a C80-82 model

Epson won't tell you about this problem anywhere in their site troubleshooting
and FAQ. They don't really want to acknowledge the existance of the problem.
