Does System Profiler at least show the device when it's plugged in? OOh! Is the
drive set to Master? Many cases require that and the last time I bought a
seagate it came jumpered to cable select.

If none of this is the case, my guess is either the drive or the case are DOA.

Well... it turns out that the fix was closing an "air gap." The short ATA cable
fit in so snuggly that pushing the drive in all the way to the mounting
position pulled the ATA connector partially off the bottom bridge enclosure
connector pins. Impossible to see until the entire thing was dismantled again.

Big "DOH!"

Next, Kris emailed me off list last week saying he thought I could set up both
an MS-DOS and HFS+ partion on the drive. (That's what I want to do). It appears
Disk Utility wants to do one or the other. Kris also thought maybe I could do
two partions both in HFS+ and then maybe go back and change one to Fat-32.
Anyone tried this?

I'm thinking it's not going to let me change one. There is a method in Terminal
that seems complicated and I don't know if I'm up for that.

Experiences welcome.
