10.3.9 and it seemed to me that my beige G3 desktop
was going to sleep and not waking up.
So as a work around I went to
System Preferences> energy saving> advanced tab>
set the computer to never sleep
clicked set seperate time for monitor sleep
to give me the illusion of cutting my electric bill
clicked let drive sleep when possible
to minimize wear on my drive.
and after all this the I rarely have a screen blackout
It worked for me.
