Well, they have to be - as PayPal account holders seem to be spoof
magnets,
at least in my experience. I've had four attempts in the past several
months with
ruses improving each time, cleverly playing off PP's security issues
with great graphics,
etc. - but thankfully, always that subtle little slip -
uncharacteristic grammar, idiom, etc.,
so whoosh - it's off to [EMAIL PROTECTED], which of course triggers those
reassuring
blandishments and preachy tutorials from PP (or are they?).
Easy answer here. Almost any email from ALMOST ANY financial
institution (bank, paypal, credit card) or store (I have gotten them
from Amazon and eBay among others) wanting you to update your
information is a phishing scam. You can ignore these, forward it to the
appropriate spoof address, or have fun.
I frequently have fun. Lord help any user that has the name trickydicky
with the password of checkers.
If you are REALLY concerned about your account being put on hold do the
following:
Go to the listed web site via either an existing bookmark that you
have, or typing in the known address in your browser, NOT the address
in the email.
If there are any updates or info they need, they will ask for it here.
DO NOT EVER CLICK THE ADDRESS IN THE EMAIL AND LOG IN.
Let me make that perfectly clear:
DO NOT EVER CLICK THE ADDRESS IN THE EMAIL AND LOG IN WITH REAL
INFORMATION.
All that being said, I have had over 350 successful paypal transactions
with no problems at all.
I also wonder if paypal of something similar will take the place of
Western Union.
