Can the fax line also be used to test dial up modems ?
I am subscribed to Vonage business account ( one main line and one
fax line) . My biz deals with computer repair and other related
services. From time to time, I need to test a client's computer to
make sure it can connect to the internet via a dial up modem. I have
business class Cable Roadrunner, for my internet, for the obvious
reasons in getting system updates and etc.
The fax line works perfectly with my fax machine ( HP all in one 4110
connected to a MDDP 800 Dual 1.25 / 2 GB ddr 3200 / quad 250 GB HDs /
10.4.2 / etc. .) for both incoming and outgoing faxes.
My question is, can I use the Vonage fax line temporarily to test the
dial up modems ? I have tried it unsuccessfully. The modem detects a
dial tone and dials but will not connect. I get all the modem tones
except for the final connection tone. When I tested the same pc on a
standard landline telephone, it connected normally to the internet.
Has anyone else tried this ?
Does the pc modem need to be configured differently to achieve
connection thru the Vonage fax line ?
Going back to a dedicated land line seems to be my only other
alternative if this is not possible.
