My daughter has a Pinoneer '105' model in her G4 tower and keeps
complaining to me
how slow it is when burning DVDs. Her long jobs are usually
'overnighters'.
Just curious how much faster this '110' model is - compared to her
current drive.
If she's actually making video DVD's, the burning part of the process
(the only part affected by drive speed) is just a tiny part of the
whole enchilada.
Encoding from iMovie to the DVD format is slow, particularly on CPU
and memory challenenged systems. When I made a DVD of the downloaded
"Star Wars: Revelations" fan movie (a 20 minute short), the whole
process took around an hour and a half on my 1Ghz system.
Burning shouldn't take that long with a 105 iirc that's a 4X model
right? The X refers to a 1Hr 1X speed, so a whole disk shouldn't take
more than 15 minutes best case to actually burn. She should also make
sure she's using 4x rated disks, 1x or 2x will slow the burn speed
down to the rated speed.
