A good book is David Pogue's "Mac OS X: The Missing Manual" series.
There's a version for each of the major Mac OS X versions.

I agree with our comment on David Pogue's books--excellent!
Your link does not work for me. But I googled on "lgusd" and found the
school's web site and followed the "Technology" option which leads to a
"Resources for Teachers" and a lot of interesting guides and tutorials,
including a link to a tutorial on Tiger. I still could not find a
getstarted on OS X except for a link to an obsolete site at U. of S.
Carolina.
But http://www.lgusd.k12.ca.us/ is a nice place for many "newbies" to
visit.
