If you follow the chatter in the iMovie and Final Cut Express forums on the Apple website, you notice that the new HD (High Definition) versions of iMovie and FCE are causing a lot of people problems, as is Quicktime 7, with a lot of frustrated people dropping back to v.6. The scuttlebutt is that these versions were released too soon, without all the bugs having been exterminated, in order to be shown off at some Apple expo or other.
I'm running iMovie 4, iDVD 4, QT 6 Pro, and OS 10.3.9, and everything is hunky-dory with all of them. You don't need the new HD versions of anything unless you have a HD camcorder to make HD videos with. I don't have an HD camera, so I'm not upgrading anytime soon. I think it's foolish and risky to change anything when a lot of apps are playing nice together. It's just asking for trouble (again, see the complaints in the forums).
Besides, as noted above, it requires a 1 GHz or faster Mac to handle the HD stuff, and mine's a 733.
