As far as the iMac, there are other specs that need to be matched. Is
the memory CL2 or CL3? In my experience CL3 does not work with the
earlier G Macs. Im surprised it even recognises a single sided 256MB as
256MB. I would have expected a single sided DIMM to only be recognised
as 128MB in your machine.
As far as your question on the beige, you definitely had a major typo.
In a beige, a double sided 256MB DIMM should be recognized as 256MB,
while a single sided 256MB DIMM will only be recognised as 128MB.
