[G] Kernal Panic installing OS X 10.5

Hi,
I've been having a problem loading OS X 3.5 into my B&W G3.  Here is 
the scenario:

I tried to load OS X3.5 into my computer (B&W G3).  I had previously 
used it to upgrade 10.2 to 10.3.5 in my PB.  It would act like it was 
starting to load then I get a black screen saying: "unable to find a 
driver for this platform; Powemac 1.1 (This is called a Kernal Panic.)
Latest stack back trace for cpu0 Backtrace:" then a whole bunch of 
numbers and it then says in several languages to restart the computer 
and then it goes thru the whole process again when I restart.

I then did a complete format of the drive making five partitions of 
approx 7.7 gig each.
I then bought a new OS X3.5 install disks off of ebay and it 
installed OK on the first partition and I had a copy of OS 9.2 on the 
second partition and it was working beautifully.  Then I tried to 
install OS 9.2 on the fourth partition and then the OSX failed to 
load at startup. So I reformated the drive and tried to install OSX 
again in the first partition and it did the same thing it did up 
there in the first paragraph.
I just read on the G-books list that something similar happened and 
they suggested looking at the ram as the problem.  Also someone on 
one of the discussion lists suggested using Xpostfaxto4, which I did 
and it started to install but then it stopped with a similar panic 
screen.

I just bought the computer refurbished from one of the vendors 
suggested on lowend mac.

I had additional memory added, a combo drive added (since replaced by 
a superdrive) and a 40 gig HD added.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
