Sounds like a cost-cutting measure to me. [shrugs] To you or I, the thought of spending another $.05 on an additional keyboard key is prolly no big deal. However, when you're cranking out keyboards by the thousands, that extra nickel prolly *is* a big deal because it adds up to a substantial sum very quickly. This is apart from the hardware features needed to support that "on" key, which cost additional money. This seems to be why manufacturers went with a clone of the tried-and-true Alps keyswitch rather than the original. There was nothing "wrong" with the original, but using a clone allowed them to shave a few more pennies off of the cost of each keyboard. As an aside, I wonder if anyone has ever done research to determine how many people leave their computers on all of the time vs. those that only power them up "as-needed" and otherwise leave them off? > And by the way, do you guys realize that a brand new Apple keyboard now > costs only $29? I am very happy with mine I was very surprised to learn that Apple was charging this much (little?) for their keyboards. Granted, they *do* look cool. And appearance is everything these days. That picture of a "key button" gave me The Willies, though. I just can't imagine mashing my finger down on something like that a few thousand times a day; Yikes! @_@ Best, James Fraser -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
