Its worse than that. The G4 has a 128 bit data path, while the G3 only has a
64 bit. So that 133MHz bus you speak of is actually 4 times as fast as the
G3s. Anyway, my machines bus speed is 100MHz right now. I think that is
plenty fast.
Like I said, I am installing dip switches on my motherboard. I will have
the opportunity to test several bus speeds on my machine. I have a program
called X-Plane I will use for benchmarking. It simulates flight, and it does
so better than any other program made for a Microcomputer. 450MHz was maxed
out on my machine. I bought a processor that I am going to run at 600MHz.
That
should be better. I am writing a long article on this and now I will include
benchmarks of slower bus speeds as well to see if it makes much of a
difference. X-Plane constantly makes calculations. Every second the same
number of
calculations is going on. I think it would be a perfect measure of bus speed.
BTW, what is the original sender using his computer for? Somehow I dont
think its quite aeronautical research. Or even playing grapically intensive
games. But if thats what he wants to start doing I believe a newer machine is
a good decision, because CPU upgrades are much cheaper for the AGP machines.
